When you see a green and white sign marking a stop on the Park Service's Dial and Discover tour, call 202-730-9307 and enter the number of the stop to learn about aspects of the park, such as Meridian Hill Park, named after the (now lost) meridian stone.
NPS Rock Creek Park Podcasts
Folks with iOS devices can download two free audio podcasts, one about Fort Stevens, the other about Battleground National Cemetery.

Rock Creek Runner
A general running blog that also provides a runners' guide to the park, including tips on both the paved and dirt trails.

This group breaks down the Rock Creek bike trail into northern and southern sections, with advice.
Leafsnap
This free iPhone app presents electronic field guides developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland and the Smithsonian Institution. Guides to Washington and New York are available. IOS only, though developers hope to have an Android app by fall.
Plants of Rock Creek Park
The Encyclopedia of Life, a free crowd-sourced and -curated database that aims to document every species, has a collection devoted to Rock Creek plant life.
NPS Field List of Birds of Rock Creek Park
This list for beginners breaks down sightings by month into common, uncommon and rare.
Birdsnap
There are plenty of paid bird identification apps but beginners might want to start with the app from the same team that developed Leafsnap. It has 500 species, many more than most free bird apps. IOS only.
Capital Weather Gang
Our Post colleagues will keep you updated on the changeable weather, which is very important in flash-flood-prone Rock Creek Park. But, as the Park Service notes, folks should be aware that cell phone coverage in the park can be spotty.
